Dutch Class

We began Dutch class today. We arrived at 9 o’clock and didn’t get done until 4. No, I’m not kidding. We had 2 short breaks but we were there for 7 hours. Dutch really isn’t that complicated. When I compare it to Spanish it seems a lot simpler but it is still intimidating to learn a new language. Thankfully classes won’t be 7 hours after today. However, they will be 4 hours everyday for the next 2 1/2 weeks. We are expected to do a lot of work outside the class. I’m pretty used to that because my Child Development professors require that we do a lot of out of classroom work as well. Dr. A would be proud of me. While I was in Dutch class today I was thinking to myself “this is assimilation not accomodation because I don’t have much to base this new knowledge off of.” If I’m wrong don’t tell me Dr. A (if you’re reading this)! Overall, I think we’ll be in good shape at the end of the course. It is an intensive Dutch course that is used to teach international students at Delft University Dutch and we’re getting the crash course. The professor seemed nice enough. I like his directness but some people don’t care for it. I’m sure if it’s ever directed towards me I won’t care for it as much. Overall, I’m scared, nervous and excited for the next few weeks of class. We do get graded so if I don’t catch on as fast as I’d like I know I’ll freak out. My professors can attest to that as well.
